For the first class, you have two tasks:
- If you are not already familiar with the resources model of student thinking, read two of the papers under the heading "Papers/Cognitive, Resources Model" on our readings page.
- If you are working on a research project or are planning one, think about how social interactions, the classroom environment, and the attitudes and expectationss that students have brought in to the class play a role in your research. Be prepared to describe your project (informally) to the group.

- For this class, read one of the papers under the heading "Papers/Socio-Cultural Overviews" or explore one of the general websites under "Links" on our readings page and be prepared to present a precis of what you have learned to the group. Pay particular attention to identifying authors or papers that might be interesting for further exploration.

- For this class, in the first hour we will continue our discussion of what
papers we might want to read. In the second, Matty will lead a discussion
of Smagorinsky (on our readings page).

- For this class, in the first hour we will continue our discussion of Smagorinsky.
In the second hour, Tom will lead a discussion of Greeno (on our
readings page).

- For this class, in the first hour we will continue our discussion of Greeno.
In the second hour, Renee-Michelle will lead a discussion of Gover and Gavelek
on "The Dialects of Identity".

the second hour, Paul will begin a discussion of Hutchins paper on the navigation
of ships and Beach's paper on Schoolwork in Nepal (activity and social change).

- For this class, in the first hour we will continue our discussion of the Hutchins paper on the navigation
of ships and Beach's paper on Schoolwork in Nepal (activity and social change). In the second hour, we will have a discussion on the relation of the socio-cultural and cognitive perspectives. A good starting point for this is Paul Cobb's paper, "What is the Mind".
