The problem

for Fermilab!
A-phi Counters:
An upgrade to the muon trigger system of the D0 detector at Fermilab's Tevatron
consisting of a set of scintillation counters with approximately 2 ns timing
resolution is proposed. These counters will both give the D0 detector improved
trigger efficiency for high Pt muons, and increased acceptance for j/psi by a
factor of 25 by allowing a 1.5 GeV di-muon trigger threshold. This will improve
the D0 detector's ability to do precision studies of the top quark, the W boson,
and the b quark. Precision measurements on the top and W system should give
information about the mechanism through which particles become massive. Studies
of the b quark should provide information on the observed matter-anti-matter
asymmetry in the Universe.
