Physics 171/171H Fall 2000 Professor Ellen D. Williams |
Learning physics requires a facility with mathematics. In this
course, it is assumed you have a solid background in:
Geometry
Algebra
Trignometry
Calculus I (integration and differentiation)
A good overview of the level of mathematics you should be able to handle
without difficulty can be found in Appendix H of the course textbook.
To test your readiness for the course, you should do the problems on the
course
review sheet (see below, also handed out in course). If
your math skills are sufficient for this course, you should be able to
write the answers to the problems on the worksheet without having to stop
and think or look anything up. If you can't do this, then you need
to do some serious reviewing and/or get help through one of the sources
listed on the course syllabus.
You can scroll through the sheet below, or download a pdf file of the worksheet here ( mathreview.pdf ) if you'd like to make a good quality print out.
