"Quantum Phases of the Extended Bose-Hubbard Hamiltonian: The Possibility
of a Supersolid State of Cold Atoms in Optical Lattices"
Vito Scarola
UMD
ABSTRACT: The possibility of using cold atoms in optical lattices to generate the
extended Bose-Hubbard model is discussed. Strongly interacting bosons
with an extended-range interaction allow for a rich phase diagram,
including the supersolid phase. I will review the ground state
properties of the extended Bose-Hubbard model and discuss possible
implementation schemes in cold atom optical lattices.
