"Quantum networking with atomic ensembles"

I will talk about our ongoing work to realize long-distance quantum networks
based on atomic ensembles, following the proposal of Duan, Lukin, Cirac, and
Zoller, Nature 414, 413 (2001). Particularly I will describe our recent
realization of a quantum node and of the transfer of quantum information
between matter and light (Matsukevich and Kuzmich, Science 306, 663 (2004)).
